There is something uniquely powerful about being in a room full of people who have gathered with the same heart. From the very beginning of the night, it was clear this We Are Messengers event was more than just a concert. The foyer of C3 Central West was alive with activity, from the merch desk to Compassion’s sign-up booth, alongside Hope 103.2’s media wall and spin-the-wheel setup. The buzz created a sense of shared excitement before anyone even stepped on stage and set the tone for the night ahead.

The night opened with Ethan Beer from Queensland, who delivered a deeply engaging set marked by passion and sincerity. With just his guitar, Ethan filled the room and invited the audience into a beautiful space through creative storytelling and honest expression. His sound sits comfortably in the indie, alt, and singer-songwriter space, and his ability to hold the room on his own at such a young age was impressive. Honestly, one of my favourite Australian voices right now!

Next, Nathan Tasker took the stage, performing live on home soil after his new reality of living and touring in Nashville, Tennessee. Joined by his incredible band, he delivered a strong and polished set that helped prepare the room for the rest of the night following intermission. You can tell he and his band are seasoned performers with loads of talent that exists purely to glorify God.

Before leaving the stage, Nathan shared Compassion’s vision in a way that felt both graceful and heartfelt. Even for those who have heard the message many times before, it landed with fresh impact and stood out as one of the most moving moments of the evening for me.

A special mention must go to Brendan and Danniebelle from Hope 103.2, who did a wonderful job MC-ing the night and guiding the event with warmth and fun. I always love what their team contributes to nights like these! Their presence is unmatched.

When We Are Messengers stepped onto the stage, the room immediately rose to its feet. What followed was a night filled with joy and praise. The sound and audio-visual experience was excellent, and the lighting complemented the atmosphere well. Above all, it was the way God was glorified through every strum, note, lyric, and beat that stood out most.

The band’s frontman, Darren Mulligan, was articulate and engaging, which helped create a welcoming and unified atmosphere. It was special to see people of all ages and backgrounds gathered together, sharing the moment and appreciating the gifts God has placed within His people.

Darren's onstage moments brought both humour and conviction, from joking, “We don’t come here for the money. We come here for the avocado toast,” to his more direct statement later in the night, “I love rock and roll. I’m sick of seeing the devil have all of it.”

The band also introduced an unreleased song titled “Lay It All On You,” which was met with an enthusiastic response from the crowd. The lyrics and musical composition were strong, and the way the song moved from soft and tender to rock within seconds stood out. It was definitely a head-banger (you can see and hear it clearly in our social media recap 👀).

Beyond the music, the night also touched on the importance of mental health awareness. There was encouragement to acknowledge dark seasons without allowing them to become a permanent place or personal identity, instead choosing to stand on the hope found in God.

Overall, the evening was a meaningful reminder of the power of worship, community, and honest conversation, all centred on faith. If you are considering attending a We Are Messengers show in the future, I would highly encourage you to go. They put on an incredible show!
