Sometimes it starts with taking a risk.
For Reagan James Broome, that meant putting himself out there, something that would go on to open unexpected doors and shape his journey in ways he didn’t see coming.
With a heart for creating honest, relatable Christian music, Reagan, our Artist of the Month for May, writes from real experiences. Turning insecurity, discipline, and everyday moments with God into songs that remind listeners they’re not alone. We caught up with him to talk about his journey so far, the story behind his latest release, and what this season has been teaching him.

For those who may be discovering your music for the first time, how would you introduce yourself?
Reagan: I would introduce myself as a Christian Artist from Olympia, Washington. I currently go to school at GCU in Phoenix, AZ. Im honestly just a Jesus freak that has loved singing for as long as I can remember, and I am super passionate about writing relatable Christian music.
Looking back on your journey so far, what’s been a moment where you saw God moving in your music career?
Reagan: I would say the biggest way I have seen God move in my career has been through the Josiah Queen verse challenge, just the way he opened those doors has been insane.
Can you walk us through how that opportunity with Josiah Queen came about? What did it mean to you to have your verse chosen for that track?
Reagan: Oh man, it was a fever dream. I remember when I first heard about the challenge I had just talked to one of my pastors and he was telling me to take more risks and put myself out there more, and so I was like, well the worst thing that happens is that it doesn’t take off and then I just move on with my life. But then, it blew up, and I was thinking, "Holy smokes, I may actually have a shot at this." From there Josiah has really taken me under his wing and taught me so much and I am so grateful to have him as a mentor in the industry.
You released a new song in April, what can you share about this track and the message behind it?
Reagan: For sure! This song kind of felt like my big jump to see if I could maintain my momentum after all of the Josiah Queen stuff, and it came from a time when I was REALLY struggling with insecurity. I have always kind of struggled with the way my body looks, specifically my legs, and so the song was born out of me speaking truth over myself.

Has there been a song you’ve written that changed something in your own faith before it ever impacted anyone else?
Reagan: Oh absolutely. I would say that is often the case for my songs. I know a song is going to be good when I encounter a bunch of spiritual warfare while trying to make it, and that's been happening on the last couple records for sure and it forces me to walk out my faith and believe what I am singing.
When people listen to your music, what do you hope they walk away understanding about God?
Reagan: My biggest hope is that people walk away feeling encouraged, knowing they are not alone, and that a new piece of the Fathers heart is revealed to them.
If you could sit down and have a conversation with any person from the Bible, who would it be and why?
Reagan: I think Jesus is probably the cliche answer, plus we have the Holy Spirit now, so I think I'd go with Paul. I think his zeal and passion for the things of God would be so inspiring, and I would have so many questions about what his practical day-to-day walking out the mission of the gospel looks like.

What’s a hobby you love outside of music?
Reagan: Golf. I grew up playing it, and I genuinely like being out there so much. It helps me slow down and I feel really connected with God when I go out and play early in the morning.
What’s next for you in this season? Both musically and in what you feel God is calling you into?
Reagan: Great question! Musically, my plan is to keep pumping out music and try to grow my discography. I have been invited to do several gigs across the country this summer that I am really excited about. In general, I feel like the Lord is just leading me into a more disciplined season. It's hard to do school and music and social media all at once, and I often have to sacrifice what I want at the moment, such as hanging out with friends, to put in the work that I know will allow me to be successful in the future.
Putting You On Segment: If you could introduce your audience to one Christian artist or song that’s currently under the radar but blew you away, who or what would it be and why?
Reagan: I would honestly say the group “Verses”. They collab with a bunch of artists and its literally JUST scripture. I love playing it as I am doing a quiet time or just resting in the secret place.

As Reagan continues to release new music and step into what’s ahead, his focus stays the same: to create from a place of honesty and point people back to the heart of God. And if this season is any indication, there’s so much more still to come!
