You started writing songs in your early teens. How do you think your songwriting has grown or evolved over the years?

Samantha: Ever since I was young, I’ve always loved writing deep, heartfelt ballads filled with storytelling. But over the past couple of years, as I journeyed through illness, the way I write shifted. It became both an outlet and a way to process what I was going through. As I spent more time in Scripture to get through those hard days, I discovered that the Bible isn’t just full of incredible stories and lessons, it’s also filled with raw, human emotion. That realization changed everything for me and gave me permission to write honestly about the hard things while still leaning on the truth of God’s goodness. These days, most of my songs start as a simple conversation with God or a verse I’ve been clinging to, and from there, they slowly take shape as melodies.

Your sound blends pop, worship, and country in a really natural way. What draws you to those particular genres?

Samantha: Growing up in the church, worship music became the foundation of my sound and shaped how I connect with music emotionally and spiritually. I’m drawn to pop, especially singer/songwriter styles, for their melodies and creative production. Country music resonates with me because of its clever lyrics, storytelling that takes you on a journey, and memorable hooks that stay with you long after the song ends. In my own music, I strive to stay true to the styles I love while weaving in biblical truth.

You’ve shared that being bedridden with Lyme disease in 2023 deepened your faith. Creatively, how did that season impact your songwriting process or the way you approach music now?

Samantha: That experience really shifted everything for me. Being bedridden for several months allowed me to slow down and enter a space of stillness I hadn’t experienced before. With little strength or energy to do much else, I spent that time writing and reflecting on what was truly real to me in that moment—without any pressure or rush. Through that season, I learned there’s beauty in writing and singing from exactly where you are in life. When music comes from a place of raw honesty, that authenticity shines through the art. Now, I intentionally invite God into every part of the process and do my best to write about what’s true to me in each moment.

In writing 'Flowers' during that valley season, you talked about God co‑writing the song with you. How do you personally sense God’s presence in your creative moments?

Samantha: When lyrics come quickly or a song falls into place in a way that can only be explained by God, it feels more like a gift rather than something I’ve created on my own. During that valley season, writing Flowers felt like God was right there with me, guiding the process. I remember the “watering can” lyric coming so naturally, perfectly rhyming with the line before it, and sensing His presence in that moment. I knew then it was a special song, which was later confirmed by the testimonies of how God used it to impact others. Overall, I sense God’s presence throughout the creative process when I spend time in the Word before writing and ask Him to reveal things to me. Those moments remind me that I’m simply a vessel, and it’s His presence that brings healing and hope through the music.

Looking back, what’s one lesson from your valley season that you carry forward and what encouragement would you offer to artists who feel 'stuck in their valley'?

Samantha: Looking back, one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from my valley season is that God uses pain for good. When I got sick, I thought my life was being put on hold—I had plans to go back to university and finish my degree, but in that season of pain and uncertainty, God was quietly redirecting me toward something I’ve always desired to do: step fully into music. He gave me the desires of my heart through the toughest season and it was in that valley that I discovered my calling to write songs that offer hope, and remind people they’re not alone.

To anyone who feels stuck in their own valley, even when it feels like nothing is moving forward, God is still working. The hard things are never wasted. There is purpose in the waiting, in the wrestling, in the silence and sometimes the most meaningful art is born in the hardest places and I’ve seen that firsthand in my own life. Keep showing up with honesty. Keep creating. Let God meet you there and trust that He’s in every moment.

Without giving too much away, what can listeners expect from your upcoming EP The Waiting?

Samantha: My upcoming EP ‘The Waiting’ is a collection of songs I wrote during a two-year season that stretched my faith in ways I never anticipated. Each song explores what it means to wait on God — the ache of unanswered prayers, the questions, the doubts, and the quiet moments of wondering if His faithfulness applies to everyone else but you. All while learning to lean on His strength and cling to His promises. These songs were written from the rawest places of pain, but as I slowly begin to step into healing, the timing of its release will be extra special. There’s still lots of work to be done, but I can’t wait to share more of my heart and my story through the songs.

Outside songwriting, what’s a passion or hobby people might be surprised you love?

Samantha: Outside of songwriting, I love spending time with my family, getting coffee with friends, baking, long distance running early in the morning and beach volleyball.

What’s next for you? Are there any shows, collaborations, or other big projects coming up outside the EP that you’re excited about?

Samantha: Outside of the EP, I’m looking forward to the co-writes I have lined up this summer and starting to dream about my next project. Maybe a collection of happier songs as I step into a new season of healing. I have no idea what God has in store, but I’m trusting Him and His timing and hoping the future holds opportunities to sing live again and share these songs in person.
