A gunshot and an encounter with the Holy Spirit can change your life forever. An admirer of the “King of Pop” and inspired by the King of Kings, numbrs had a dream that through his music, people of all ages would be able to see what God has shown him.

In our 2025 world, an experience not too uncommon led to numbrs’ adoption of his unique artist name.

“One day, I was scrolling through Instagram and came across a video of a little kid explaining the prophecy of Jesus and how God is revealed in every book of the Torah. He got to "Numbers" and described Him as a "cloud by day, pillar of fire by night." That duality resonated with me.”

With the intention of having his music represent both the ups and downs of life as a Christian, numbers “stuck” (and the e was removed to make it that much cooler).

The beginning of numbrs’ music journey foreshadowed where he is today. Initially his music was made to impress and connect with his distant father. His deep hunger for growth and progression in the RnB scene overtook the importance of the moral code he had set in his heart. This heart posture however only lasted for so long. The first time he made a song with curse words “and other secular aspects”, numbrs was shot. It was through his miraculous survival that numbrs encountered the Holy Spirit.

For months, numbrs gave up making music in order to grow with God, until one day, when he attended Holy Smoke Festival. numbrs recounts the experience describing how God was answering “so many forgotten prayers,” encouraging him to start creating again. His music, which he once used to connect with his earthly father, would now be used to connect with his Heavenly One.

numbrs explains that “Dark RnB”, the genre his music is categorised under, is not about a heart posture,

“A lot of people assume 'dark' means evil, but it really just refers to the sonics—deep bass, airy synths, distant pads. There's a big difference between an artist like H.E.R. and PartyNXTDoor; that's RnB vs Dark RnB.”

numbrs told us at For The Glory, “ I make music about what I've lived, and I trust God to put it in the right hands.” Reminiscent of the book of Job and the Psalms, numbrs’ music comforts people who feel, “too dirty to pray… those who have confessed the same things to their accountability groups [again and again,] and feel fatigued.” It was in a time of struggle that numbrs began to write and record his latest single Prayer of Guilt. Passionate about sharing the vastness of authentic Christian experiences, numbrs used hard bass lines and heavy drums,“To represent my mind at the time, heavy, clouded, hurt.” numbrs’ vulnerability about the battles he has experienced as a Christian reminds listeners of Scripture, verses such as Luke 5:31-32 which says,

“Jesus answered and said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

Regarding his creative process, numbrs shared with the For The Glory Team that he writes, sings, and also produces all of his songs.

“I play multiple instruments and I kind of hear the music before I ever play it. I keep my beats very sparse and minimalistic, allowing my vocals and harmonies to fill the space and create an irreplicable experience.”

His choice to strip back and avoid “fancy sounds or impressive vocal tricks,” is inspired by Apostle Paul’s words, " [I] did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. " (1 Corinthians 2:1). Away from distraction, numbrs wants his music, “to reflect the silent noise in which many encounter Christ.”

Hopeful about the increasing reach of CHH (Christian Hip Hop) music, numbrs believes that the more music there is that expresses a genuine love for God, the more people who are  “growing tired of sin, tired of endless self pursuits, wanting something more,” may recognise CHH as an invitation to join a family of imperfect people, who delight in basking in the endless love of a perfect God - Jesus Christ.

“Our greatest creations come from dipping our pens into the heart of God, and writing with the given colours.”

It was a great pleasure interviewing numbrs, our For The Glory Artist of the Month for March. To listen to his latest single Prayer of Guilt and to keep up to date on what’s next with numbrs, make sure to check out the links below.
