The lyrical shepherd Eliza King is For The Glory's Artist of the Month for July. With a heart of worship from a young age, and a desire to facilitate encounters with God through creativity, Eliza King's discography immerses us in the truth of the abiding love of our Father.

While we anticipate Eliza King's upcoming EP, we had the opportunity to catch up with her, discovering what finding joy and contentment in simple rhythms looks like.

Has your upbringing or family background played a role in shaping your heart for worship or songwriting?

Eliza King: In many ways yes - I was blessed with parents who instilled in me an awareness of the personal presence of God from a really early age. I knew I could talk to the Lord and felt known by Him, which made it easy to trust Him. I can certainly see now that this lay a strong foundation for a heart of worship that started with honest, childlike faith.

Hear directly from Eliza King about the impact her youth group's worship team had on her worship music journey.

When you’re creating, who are the people you find yourself bouncing ideas off or inviting into that process?

Eliza King: That’s a tough one as for a long time I’ve been quite insular in my writing process and wouldn’t have wanted to share a song until it was complete, or near-complete. I’ve found in the last year or two though that sharing the process with people I trust and respect as writers helps me to step back and refine things I don’t see on my own.

Your latest single explores “the profound truth of the Father holding us close”. What inspired you to write about that theme at this particular moment in your journey?

Eliza King: Yeah my friend Dawson Shorman sent me this song idea (‘Never Let Go’) that caught my attention straight away as it was so honest and vulnerable about our need for God. I always love to write about the heart of the Father as I feel it’s something everyone, particularly our generation, needs so desperately - a true revelation of the enduring, abiding love of the Father.

What kind of worship songs are you drawn to right now as a listener, not just a writer?

Eliza King: I’m often drawn to songs that are saying something a little different to the popular or common themes circulating around. I think of a song like ‘New Wine’ by Brooke Ligertwood - an older example now, but at the time I’d never heard anyone write from that passage of scripture before and it was so powerful and timely when she released it.  I think you can tell when writers have spent time in the presence of God to search out the song that’s on His heart and the one he’s longing to hear today. Those are the songs my spirit feels most stirred by.

You’ve worked with artists like Tenielle Neda and Ben Potter, and discussed your journey on podcasts like Sight, Sound & Soul. What ways have these collaborations shifted your faith journey or expanded your songwriting perspective?

Eliza King: Love Tenielle and Ben! Such fans of their work and I know that good art inspires more good art. So collaborating with them has made me a better writer for sure, and allowed me to write better songs than I would on my own.

And it’s so fun to be friends with people who love what you love and kind of nerd out with you about lyrics or progressions in the same way you do!

What’s been giving you joy in this current season of life and ministry?

Eliza King: I’ve been finding a lot of joy and contentment in simple rhythms that help me feel connected to God and to the people in my life. Things like going for long walks, making time for people God brings across my path, and trying not to rush through the ordinary parts of my day but find God in them instead.

What’s coming next? Will this song lead into a new EP or album?

Eliza King: New music is in the works! I’ve been living in the UK for the past 6 months and have spent a fair bit of it writing and connecting with other artists here. I have a project (likely an EP) that I plan to start recording throughout the second half of this year. It’s a lot about obedience, contentment, and surrender, and hoping to release early 2026! You’ll also hear a few collaborations still to come this year with other artists from Australia and abroad.

We loved this interview. All Eliza King's responses remind us about the true character of God, His heart for us and the opportunity we have to love Him back, worshipping Him in Spirit and Truth. We eagerly anticipate what's next from Eliza King but in the meantime we will definitely continue to stream Never Let Go which we excitedly selected for this month's Discovery Playlist.
